The PC796 issue is one of the most visually appealing and widely
collected postcard sets featuring baseball players of the period. Issued
in 1910 by an unknown manufacturer, this set mirrors the Novelty
Cutlery postcard set and uses many images seen in different baseball
card and baseball supplement sets.
Graded a VG 3 by SGC, this example shows Art Devlin and is in very good
condition. While centering is just slightly east on the canvas and there is some general toning, this card’s
condition is consistent with its numerical grade. Some minor chipping and wear in the lower right corner, this card is creaseless and postally unused on the reverse. With an
awesome sepia image of Devlin, this is a superb sample from this scarce
set.
SGC has
only ever graded 17 total examples of this 1910 PC796 postcard, with only ONE receiving a higher grade than the EX 5 offered
here of Al Bridwell.
