The PC796 issue is one of the most visually appealing and widely
collected postcard sets featuring baseball players of the period. Issued
in 1910 by an unknown manufacturer, this set mirrors the Novelty
Cutlery postcard set and uses many images seen in different baseball
card and baseball supplement sets.
Graded a Good+ 2.5 by SGC, this example shows Chicago's Artie Hoffman reaching out with his gloved left hand extended high into the air as he attempts to make a leaping catch. Centering is just ever so slightly west on the canvas, with rounded corners and soft edges consistent with the grade. A slightly creased lower right corner keeps this card from grading even higher than it already has, though the postally unused reverse is clean with only some light soiling. With an
awesome sepia image of Hoffman, this is a superb sample from this
scarce
set.
SGC has
only ever graded 12 total examples of this 1910 PC796 postcard, with only six receiving a higher grade than the Good+ 2.5 offered
here of Artie Hoffman
