In seven years at the helm of the New York Giants, "Truthful Jim" Mutrie's clubs had a combined record of 529-345 (.605) winning back-to-back World Series in 1888 and 1889. Mutrie is featured in three different poses in
the N172 set. This issue depicts the New York Manager seated, with his left leg crossed over his right, holding a bowler hat in his hands.
Rounded corners and soft edges don't detract from the amazing mustache adorning Mutrie's face. Some paper chipping on the right edge near the lower corner helps explain the card's technical grade, as there is tremendous eye appeal thanks to the image. Great detail and clarity allows you to see the ornate table at which Mutrie is seated, the chair he is seated upon, and the vase with its decorations, as well. Some of the text in the lower right has faded but is still present. Overall a wonderful card.
