The American Caramel E90-1 issue is sometimes referred to as the T206
of
caramel issues, and has been dubbed "The Kraken" in some quarters due
to the challenges of collecting the 120 subjects found within. The set
was issued with a
stick of caramel that, as one might imagine, led to condition issues
which plague the set.
This colorful example was spared some of
the more direct
results of that, though some light staining is visible along the bottom edge. Centering is north on the canvas, with rounded corners consistent with the grade. Some snow and light color loss appear, most noticeable on Joss' right shoulder, but this card is simply a beautiful specimen from this popular set. The printing on the back is bold and clean, with one small smudge and a spot of soiling near the top of the left edge.
SGC
has only ever graded 19 total examples of this 1909-11 E90-1 American
Caramel card higher than the VG 3 of Hall of Famer Addie Joss' portrait being offered here.
