Beautiful 4 1/2" x 7 1/4" full-color lithograph for an 1887 International Association game between the Rochester Maroons and Binghamton Crickets bearing the "Home Run Spoiled" artwork depicting a player making a fantastic backpedaling catch in the outfield. It is the presence of third baseman John McGlone in the lineup and on the scorecard that dates it to 1887; McGlone's 1887 season was spent with the club along with each of the other names present on the scorecard. Between the two teams many players moved on to play in the big leagues including familiar names like Jersey Bakely and Chief Zimmer of the Maroons and George Keefe and Harry Lyons of the Crickets. The scorecard is in Good condition largely due to two large spots of paper loss and a tear from scrapbook damage on the reverse neither of which traverses through the paper to the inside. The result is an apparent VG/EX condition front with the game scored in pencil on the interior. A lovely display piece and an example of beautiful lithography as well as 19th Century advertising.
