A gorgeous collection of five professionally matted and framed Harper's and Leslie's woodcuts featuring scenes and players of significance from 19th Century baseball highlighted by a gorgeous ornate Harper's cover from November of 1889 featuring Hall of Fame catcher Buck Ewing. Ewing captain of the champion 1889 Giants is depicted in full catcher's gear as drawn by Swedish illustrator Thure de Thulstrup who worked extensively with Harper's Weekly for three decades. Matted and framed to a finished size of approximately 15 1/2" by 21" the piece appears in excellent condition (accounting for the fact that as with each of these items the edges are obscured underneath the grey matting). Also included in the collection are the following: 2) July 1874 Harper's Philadelphia Athletics composite featuring Cap Anson matted and framed to approximately 15 1/2" x 21"; 3) 1884 Harper's "Champion Base-Ball Players" composite featuring Hoss Radbourn Buck Ewing King Kelly John Ward Jim O'Rourke and more matted and framed to approximately 15 1/2" x 21"; 4) October 1882 Harper's Chicago Base-Ball Club woodcut featuring King Kelly Cap Anson (considered by some to be the first collectible of Anson) Ned Williamson Silver Flint and Piano Legs Gore matted and framed to approximately 14 1/2" x 13 1/2"; and 5) August 1874 Leslie's woodcut featuring American Baseball players' visit to England. All five pieces appear in excellent condition each matted and housed in modern wood frames.
