George J. "Germany" Smith played for Brooklyn from 1885 through 1890 (then again for one final season in 1897). Smith has five different posesin the N172 set. This one depicts the Shortstop at the plate with his bat at the ready.

If not for evidence of trimming which garners an automatic Authentic grade, this card could have graded extremely high. An absolutely beautiful print job with bold, dark coloring and an immensely clear image give this card tremendous eye appeal. The details of Smith's uniform are easily seen, as is the wry smile on his face as he awaits the ball with his split-handed grip.
