George J. "Germany" Smith played for Brooklyn from 1885 through 1890 (then again for one final season in 1897). One of five different poses of Smith in the N172 issue, this one depicts the Shortstop with his hands on his knees, staring directly at the camera.

Centering is just slightly west on the canvas, with nice corners and edges for the grade. Great clarity in the image, allowing you to see all of the details of Smith's uniform, his hands, and his face. This one has tons of eye appeal and presents much nicer than its grade.
