Fantastic original Type 1 photograph showing a portion of the outer structure at New York's Polo Grounds. Just above the large Fatima sign towards center of the image the right field bleachers are clearly visible and packed to the gills with fans. This image was likely captured late in 1911 as the grandstand of this classic ballpark was completing reconstruction. A fire destroyed the wood structure early that April, forcing the Giants to play their home games just north at Hilltop Park (home of the Highlanders) until their park was playable once more. Twelve years later, in 1923, Yankee Stadium would be built just out of frame to the south (right side of photo). Approx. 4.5" x 6.5" photo appears to have been trimmed to current dimensions and displays multiple credit stamps from the famous Brown Brothers news photo service on verso. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
