The great book The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company (1886-1890) by Jay Miller, Joe Gonsowski and Richard Masson is one of the few books that takes a scholarly approach to collecting, providing unparalleled analysis of one of the hobby's greatest (and most mysterious) card issues. At Love of the Game, we have an immense amount of respect for scholarly analysis of card issues and consider the book to be one of the greatest resources in our library. Therefore we take it serious when we read that Amos Rusie is listed third among all the set's Hall of Famers in terms of rarity and also one of the top 100 most rare cards in the massive issue. This example, checklisted as #395-3, remains strong for the grade, some light wrinkling more visible on the reverse than the front, accompanied by some pronounced corner wear. Rusie, the Hall of Fame Giants pitcher who won 12 games in his debut season with the Indianapolis Hoosiers, is represented here on his first card, making this a very difficult card to obtain for Hall of Fame rookie card collectors.
