Owen F. "Spider" Clark played 38 games for the 1889 Washington Nationals. In just 107 games played between his 1889 season with the Nationals and his 1890 season with the Buffalo Bisons of the Players League, Clark appeared as Pitcher, Catcher, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, and Outfield, showing his incredible versatility. Clark has five different poses in the N172 issue. This example, which depicts him as a catcher, facing front with his hands out ready to receive a ball - has the lowest graded population.

The front of the card presents well, despite the slight image fade. The bottom border is cut slightly higher on the left than the right, and the centering is west on the canvas, but no text is cut off and everything is legible as it should be. The back of the card is where we find the biggest issue, with staining and paper loss due to scrapbook removal. Those issues explain the card's technical grade of Authentic Altered, however, the scarcity of this example far outweighs any drawbacks resulting from the technical grade.

This is the only example of this card that PSA has ever graded.
