Gorgeous midgrade example of a 1912 Zeenut of Sacramento Sacts pitcher Spider Baum. The dark colors have remained bold more than 110 years after the card's issue, with edge chipping and corner wear keeping it from grading even higher than it already has. The card's back is an advertisement for the Collins-McCarthy Candy Co. out of San Francisco, a logical sponsor for the Pacific Coast League set.
All things considered, 1912 was a down year for Baum, who
was traded to the Vernon Tigers of the PCL halfway through the season. He ended the year with a combined 14-13 record against a 2.62 earned run average. From 1908 to 1917, Baum had 7 campaigns of 20 or more wins in the Pacific Coast League, giving him 9 such seasons in his PCL career. He won a career-high 30 games in 1915 for the SF Seals. Baum was inducted into the PCL Hall of Fame in 1945 and is considered one of the
league's greatest pitchers.
