Issued in tins of Fatima brand
cigarettes in 1913, the set we refer to as T200 today consists of 16
team photos - eight National and eight American league cards. The cards
are printed on glossy photographic paper and are subject to all manner
of condition woes due to their fragility. Though cards from the issue
appear frequently in hobby auctions, each has a varying degree of
scarcity, with some much more difficult to obtain than others.
According to the Standard Catalog, the team cards feature 369 different
players, managers, and mascots, including some of the most popular and
important figures to play the game.
Hall of Famers Tris Speaker and Harry Hooper are featured in the photo, as well as
several other of the day's better-known names like Smoky Joe Wood, Bill
Carrigan, Duffy Lewis, Ray Collins, and Dutch Leonard. Olaf Henriksen, 3-time World Series champion and the only MLB player ever born in Denmark, is seated on the bottom row, second from the left.
This Boston Red Sox team card is
graded
POOR 1 by SGC due to some significant creasing, corner loss, and a slice that travels 2/3 up the card from the bottom border. General wear and some
snow are present, but the image is still a nice, bold
print with great contrast. The reverse shows some light staining, but the text remains beautifully dark after more than 110 years. This is a tough example of the T200 Fatima issue.
