Emerson Dickman was a non-descript pitcher with a lifetime ERA of 5.33 who managed to never have a losing season across four years with the Red Sox (plus a 1 game cup of coffee prior); he never went under .500 in the minors, quite a feat! He's signed here on a VG-EX PSA 4 1939 Play Ball card, with a Mint PSA/DNA 9 grade assessed for his autograph. Signed across the bottom in dark blue ink in a fine hand, Dickman died in 1981 and the combination of a short career and his missing the autograph show years makes this a desirable piece for a Red Sox collector or someone looking to fill in a run of signed Play Balls. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
