The 1939 Play Ball set captured Carl Hubbell in the autumn of his sixteen seasons with the Giants, with injuries starting to nag a bit at his fabled left arm.  He became even craftier following elbow surgery in 1938 and looks exactly like the wizened old veteran he had become in a brooding shot. Signed in a somewhat precise hand in blue, it's a fine autograph that PSA/DNA has graded MINT 9, the card itself assessed at EX 5.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
