Harry Gumbert fashioned a solid major league career over fifteen seasons spent with four different National League squads.  A righthander whose nimble glove and reflexes as a fielder helped his own cause, "Gunboat" found himself on four pennant winners, and snagged his only ring with the 1942 Cardinals. He's affixed his autograph to this 1939 Play Ball in a neat hand, with some emphasis given to the "bars" of some letters.  Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA, it's a very well-executed signature, about as strong as can be.  Some paper remnants on the reverse are the result of long ago scrapbook removal.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
