A decidedly burly pitcher a 6' 4" and 295 pounds, Walter "Jumbo" Brown was an early relief pitcher had a  quixotic professional career, effective at times, shelled hard at others. A member of two Yankees World Series winners (1932 and 1936) he finally found his rhythm with the Giants. He passed away in 1966 and this is his only signed 1939 Play Ball in the PSA/DNA database, with a grade of NM-MT 8 for a signature with some ink loss in his last name, likely from a balky pen. The PSA authentic card has scrapbook damage on the reverse.  Brown's signature is a rare one; he died of congestive heart failure in 1966.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
