A popular Washington Senator, Cecil Travis played his entire career in DC with four seasons given over to the U.S. Army during World War 2. A shortstop who also manned other positions, Travis was a renowned hitter who retired with a .314 lifetime average. His 1939 Play Ball has him in a follow-through hitting pose, quite appropriate, and it's signed in red ink, with his middle initial of "H." (for Howell), added. Angled upward in a compact and sure hand, this fabulous autograph has earned a grade of PSA/DNA GEM MINT 10 on a PSA 4 VG-EX card. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
