Elbie Fletcher came up to the Braves in 1934, played alongside Babe Ruth in Spring Training in 1935, was traded to Pittsburgh in the middle of the 1939 season, served two years in the military, came back for two seasons, then bounced into the Indians system for 1948 while never taking the field for them before pinballing into the Giants system for 1948 and the early part of 1949, whereupon he found himself back with the Braves before playing for the Cubs Los Angeles PCL affiliate in 1950.  Whew! He had a fine year in LA but decided to hang up his spikes after the season ended. This 1939 Play Ball has residual paper riding along from an old album, earning an Authentic designation from PSA.  The autograph is a PSA/DNA 8 and signed in black ink with a steady hand until the very end, where the tail of the "r" trails off, reducing the numerical grade.  Some paper remnants, the result of scrapbook removal, appear on the reverse.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
