Chuck Klein, Hall-of-Famer and sometimes 1934 Goudey spokesman, would find himself traded to Pittsburgh in the middle of the 1939 season but Play Ball had him in his Phillies uniform in their set, togs which he had worn twice (with a break in the middle mashing for the Cubs) in the ten seasons prior as he routinely carved up National League pitching. There is some scrapbook residue on the reverse while the obverse is nicely centered and contrasted.  His black ink signature is strong but blends into the dark background a little.  PSA/DNA has encapsulated and authenticated the signature and card. Klein is not that easy of a HOF autograph as he died suddenly in 1958 at just 53 years old.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.  As is the case with many of the cards from the collection, this example does have paper remnants on the reverse, from long-ago scrapbook removal.
