Large collection of newspaper clippings and scrapbook material related to the life and career of Mr. Bill Skiff. Includes a paper scrapbook measuring approx .5" x 11" x 14" chronicling the 1934 season for Skiff's Norfolk Tars of the Class B Piedmont League, which he managed in both 1934 and 1935. Also included are over 100 individual pages that have been removed from various scrapbooks but include newspaper clippings, telegrams, and a handful of photos, all originating from the 1910's-40's and correlating with Skiff's career. Majority of content in this collection covers Skiff's time as a player during the 1920's and as a manager during the 1930's. A unique time capsule offering fascinating insight into a man who spent a lifetime in professional baseball.

This collection hails directly from the estate of Skiff himself who played briefly for both the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1921 and the New York Yankees in 1926, appearing in 22 games in the major leagues. Perhaps more interestingly Skiff played in parts of 19 seasons in the minor leagues for clubs located just about everywhere from New Jersey to Kansas City, Los Angeles, Toronto and elsewhere. Following his playing days Skiff managed in the minors for 14 seasons between 1933-51 before later becoming a scout for both the New York Yankees and Seattle Pilots.
