Spectacular real photo postcard, circa 1910, picturing 35 members of the Pittsburgh Pirates, posed together in what is likely to be a spring training environment.  The players are not identified, but many are clearly identifiable due to the quality of the photo, including Fred Clarke, Tommy Leach and Honus Wagner, sitting in the second row, dead center (Leach is being flanked by his good pals).  The postcard has been graded VG 3 by SGC, primarily due to some very mild staining and toning on the reverse.

Please note: this postcard has been identified by SGC, and in sales with prior auction houses, as a 1909 postcard, based on the 1908-09 uniforms that the players are wearing, which were specific to those two seasons.  The photo, however, was most likely taken in August of 1910.  We base this on the presence of Max Carey (HOF, third row, fourth from right) and Bill McKechnie (HOF second row, third from right).  Neither player was with the Pirates in 1909.  Carey, along with Alex McCarthy (seated on ground, far left) both came to Pittsburgh in August of 1910.  McKechnie made the team in 1910 as well.  To Carey's left is Vin Campbell, a young outfielder also in his rookie season.  Several of the subjects in the photo, including Carey and Campbell, are wearing 1909 uniforms, but the rest are wearing 1910 uniforms.  As such, we are changing the description of this postcard from c.1909 to c.1910, with a rookie Max Carey.
