One of the earliest North American sets to be issued after World War 2 ended, if not the earliest, was the 100 subject set issued by Caramelo Deportivo during the Cuban Winter League season of 1945-46. Printed on what's essentially thick paper, the set is hotly pursued by collectors far and wide.  Here we present an evenly matched pair of players from the set, both with intriguing histories.

Booker McDaniel (no "s") of the Marinao squad was a former teammate of Satchel Paige, and a key figure in the integration of the Pacific Coast League in 1949 when he took the mound for 18 games representing the Los Angeles Angels. Cecil (not Charley) Kaiser was a fellow Negro National League pitcher who never made it to an integrated pro team, finishing out his career as the Negro Leagues folded before joining Ford Motors in Detroit and playing for their company team until 1961. McDaniel is holdered as a PSA 2, with multiple creases and wear showing, with a central image that remains largely unaffected. The back of his card looks to have been carefully removed from an old album, with no paper loss.  Kaiser shows up in a PSA 1.5 holder, with some creasing and a small spot of paper loss on his chin.  The reverse of his card is foxed and may have been very lightly attached to an album before being carefully excised.
