Printed souvenir photo with very wide borders featuring "Miss Weiss" at the bat. The subject is Alta Weiss, Ohio's "Girl Wonder" who began playing semi-pro ball as a seventeen year old in 1907. The following year found her as the star attraction of the Weiss All Stars, a team that toured Ohio River Valley in 1908-09 and otherwise featured a roster comprised of men. She became a doctor in 1914, graduating from what is now the Ohio State University Medical College and eventually took over her father's practice in Ragersville, where she encouraged a young woman named Lois Youngen to take up the game. Youngen ended up playing for the Fort Wayne Daisies of the All-American Girls Baseball League. The photo is creased in a variety of spots and a relatively small water stain can be seen in the background. Never mounted, this is an exceptional keepsake that has come down to us through the years.
