***NOTE*** It has been brought to our attention from a very reliable source that the Jacob Ruppert autograph on this document was actually signed by team secretary and Hall of Famer Ed Barrow who often signed such documents on Ruppert's behalf. Please bear this in mind and bid accordingly. Baseball-reference.com indicates that pitcher Joe Maley had a seven-year minor league career beginning with a 16-11 1924 season with the Richmond Colts of the Virginia League. Unfortunately Maley never played a game in the major leagues. However we now know that in January of 1925 Maley signed a major league contract to pitch for the New York Yankees. His salary was set at $300 per month signed on January 24 1925 by both Maley and Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert and approved in writing on April 1 1925 by league president Ban Johnson. Written at the top of the contract in green ink are the words "Option Buffalo." Maley spent the entire 1925 season with the Buffalo Bisons of the International League going 11-18 with a 4.86 ERA before moving on to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Maley never played for the Yankees. However he has left behind this tremendous contract with the highly desirable signatures of Hall of Famers Jacob Ruppert and Ban Johnson. Both ink signatures are in outstanding condition bold and dark as are the two signatures of Maley that appear in the contract. An outstanding and historically significant document featuring the signatures of two prominent and very important members of the Hall of Fame.
