An original 8" x 10" Type 1 photo from the lens of Charles Martin Conlon. Taken prior to Game 1 of the 1914 World Series, Athletics second baseman and future Hall of Famer, Eddie Collins is shown receiving an automobile for earning the status of league MVP - an honor known as the Chalmers Award from 1910-1914. Other images extant in the hobby, captured during this very moment, make it clear a gaggle of photographers gathered to document Collins accepting this award previously bestowed upon such AL luminaries as Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Walter Johnson, and Nap Lajoie. Fellow Hall of Famer, Frank "Home Run" Baker is visible standing between Rube Oldring and Eddie Murphy towards the left side of the shot. Verso includes an uncommon inscription from Conlon directing a photo editor to remove a bit of the windshield peeking it's way atop Collins' head in the image. Conlon's handwritten signature appears below the inscription in pencil and a 1996 Baseball Magazine hologram is present close to the top edge. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
