Desirable pair of 1910 original photographic portraits from Paul Thompson's news photo service. While this pair has been heavily cropped, presumably by a fervent photo editor of the era, their allure remains. Research has shown that Paul Thompson photographers snapped a portrait of virtually every player in both the American and National Leagues prior to or during the 1910 season. Many of these portraits were then utilized exclusively to create the 1911 T205 series of tobacco cards (among other issues) and even more were featured throughout the 1911 Spalding Guide. Pair includes two members of the Boston Red Sox: 1) Hall of Famer Harry Hooper - Hooper's portrait did not appear in the T205 set for unknown reasons but quite possibly because 1910 would have been only his second season in the league. This image is featured on page 85 of the 1911 Spalding Guide. 2) Catcher Bill Carrigan. This portrait did in-fact serve as the source image for Carrigan's T205 tobacco card and can also be found in the T202 Triple Folder series as well as on page 84 of the 1911 Spalding guide. Both sepia-toned photos measure approx 4" x 4.25" and include large Paul Thompson stamping on verso. Each is guaranteed to return as Type 1 if submitted to PSA for authentication.
