Billikens were designed as premiums for a brand of cigars in 1923-24, during a short, active period of Cuban card issues. This is actually a "La Moda", which is an alternate brand of cigars and significantly harder to track down than the comparable Billikens (all 60 subjects were issued with both brands). A bit of a mystery man, Eufemio Abreu was a Cuban who played in the Winter and Negro Leagues until 1925 then disappeared from sight. The card, SGC 1 has some damage from an old tape removal seen at the top and some product stains on the reverse, with a small loss of paper There are just two in the SGC pop report (with none at PSA), and we are proud to offer both examples in this auction.
