Between 1900 and 1940, advertising ink blotters were used to absorb excess ink off paper and prevent smearing when people used fountain pens. Using strong visual images on the front, manufacturers and businesses gave them away to customers as free promotional items. The practice lasted until the ballpoint pen arrived. This lot features a 1929 advertising blotter from Steiner’s in New York (120 East 5th) promoting the sale of Louisville Slugger bats “to a selected list of ball players” for $1.35 each. The blotter measures 5.5"" wide by 3.25" high and is in good condition overall.
