Compelling 8" x 10" original photograph of future Olympian, Jesse Owens during his collegiate career at Ohio State. According to the paper tag on verso, Owens has been snapped while breaking the collegiate broad jump record, which is known to have occurred during his sophomore year. Regarded as "the greatest 45min in sports history," the 21-year-old Owens tied or broke six world records at the 1935 Big Ten Track and Field Championships just over three weeks subsequent to this image was captured. One year later Owens would famously win four gold medals at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin while competing in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, the long jump, and 4 x 100 meter relay. Photo exhibits light wear to corners and edges, with typical creasing associated with working press photos of the era. Light toning is apparent on verso, with paper tag affixed at top and NEA stamping towards the bottom, displaying a date of May 3, 1935. Authenticated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
