Note: further research has revealed this image hails from Game 7 of the 1924 World Series at Griffith Stadium. Giants catcher Hank Gowdy is behind the plate while umpire Bill Dinneen observes the action.
Arguably the game's greatest pitcher, Walter Johnson was rarely photographed batting and few original Type 1 photos of his plate appearances have survived today. Presented is a 1920's aerial view of the Hall of Famer following through on his swing as both the catcher and umpire track the ball during game action. Cropped from a wider shot, the offered photo measures approx. 5.25" x 8.25" and presents exceptionally well with a touch of wear to the corners and a clean verso save for a few handwritten numbers in pencil. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
