Outstanding 4" x 5" photograph depicting members of the Boston Red Sox observing superstar Babe Ruth stitching a baseball. Ruth and teammates had been invited to Draper & Maynard Co.'s factory in the White Mountains following their 1916 World Series championship and were presented with a key to the city upon arrival. During their stay the team enjoyed several activities in and around Plymouth while touring the factory itself that produced equipment endorsed by the Red Sox from 1915-1920. The team's visit was documented in a series of photographs later presented to individual players in the form of albums, several of which have found their way into the hobby in recent years. This photograph and five others offered within this auction, many including a youthful Babe Ruth, originate from those very albums. Photo remains in beautiful overall condition with light pencil markings in the top half of the photo. These markings appear above the heads of both Babe Ruth and outfielder Tillie Walker. First baseman Dick Hoblitzell can be seen peering over Ruth's left shoulder while catcher Pinch Thomas looks on from the far-right. An attractive, highly presentable remembrance of the Red Sox historic 1916 visit to D&M and a wonderful depiction of Ruth early in his career.
