Attractive and interesting real photo postcard picturing Yankee heroes Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth, flanking an older gentleman. The gentleman is Dick Mayes, at the time a ballplayer on the "3/4 Century" team. Ruth and Gehrig are each holding a baseball, one of which was used in a game played on July 23, 1883, the other used in a game played in 1902. Mayes was a member of the 1883 Pittsburgh Alleghenys. The photo was likely taken in 1934 during Spring Training, as several other professional shots of Gehrig and Mayes holding the baseball exist. The postcard has been graded AUTHENTIC by SGC, likely due simply to its being uncatalogued. Writing on the reverse identifies the subject and the circumstances of the shot, and some light soiling reduces the technical grade of the card. Still, an interesting image of two heroes of the live ball era and an early pro.
