A skilled defensive catcher across 18 American League campaigns, Sherman Lollar broke in with Cleveland in 1946, found himself on the 1947 Yankees, where, on a manager's hunch, he started game 3 of the 1947 World Series in place of Yogi Berra and had a monster game as the Bombers went on to beat Brooklyn in 7 games, earning Lollar his only ring.  A longtime member of the White Sox he died young, in 1977. The 1952 Topps example he's signed here is a horizontal low rider, with some corner rounding but superb color. The PSA/DNA AUTHENTIC signature in the text box has been covered with clear tape, something early autograph collectors did for preservation purposes.  One of just 12 examples authenticated by PSA/DNA.
