Philanthropist, yachtsmen, and associate of President Grover Cleveland Alexander, Commodore Elias Cornelius Benedict stands aboard his yacht in this original 5" x 7" glass plate negative. Large-format negative presents handsomley and appears free of chips or cracking. Emulsion layer remains clean and capable of producing a highly detailed image of the Commodore late in life, with (according to his New York Times obit) an estimated 400,000 sea miles behind him. Includes original paper sleeve as it was housed within the Culver archive.
