Prominent banker and Harvard graduate, Morgan Belmont has been captured during a polo match c.1920 in this original 5" x 7" glass plate negative. A veteran of both the Air Corps in WWI and the Army Air Forces during WWII, Belmont was known to enjoy polo competitions during his leisure time. Belmont's father was August Belmont Jr., the financier who backed construction of the original subway system in New York City, among other large-scale transit related projects early in the 20th century. Belmont racetrack in New York is named for Morgan Belmont's grandfather, August Belmont Sr. Large format negative appears free of chips or cracking with a clean emulsion layer capable of producing a highly detailed image.
