A tremendous, candid snapshot of Christy Mathewson at the Polo Grounds in 1908. Matty is standing just out of play in left field sporting his gear, while a member of the Polo Grounds staff or security personnel looks on. Mathewson is certainly the star of this show but period details here are not to be overlooked – wonderful billboards are present in the background, including those of Budweiser, Turkish Trophies, and Sarnoff Hats among others. Photo remains bright and in exemplary condition overall with handwritten notations on verso. While this photo has been developed directly from the original negative, PSA's analysis indicates it was likely created sometime during the 1950's, thus landing at as a Type 2 photo on their authentication scale. Measures approx. 3.5" x 5.5".
