A true masterpiece of 1930's press photography, capturing one of the single most important figures in both baseball and American sports history from a heroic angle. Yankees legend Lou Gehrig is in full twist here as he gazes towards the sky following the trajectory of his pantomimed blast. Astute collectors may recognize this image as hailing from the same series of photographs used to inspire Gehrig's 1961 Topps #405 "Gehrig Benched” card which features a virtually identical pose but shot at a slightly different angle.

A bold photograph with bright white borders, sharp focus, and utterly perfect tonal contrast. Surface of this photo is virtually free of blemishes with only light wear to the corners and a small bit of trimming to the bottom edge. Verso exhibits just a hint of toning with paper remnants adhered to the corners where the photo had been affixed in a paper album. International News stamping appears in black. Measures 6.5" x 8.5". Encapsulated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
