Yankees all-time great, Lou Gehrig strikes a classic fielding pose in this outstanding news service photograph from International. A baby-faced Gehrig is shown sporting his D&M first baseman's glove while reaching for an imaginary baseball during the summer of 1923. Not only did this image serve as the source material for Gehrig's 1928 R315 card but gettyimages.com attributes it to June 5, 1923, indicating the image was shot exactly ten days prior to Gehrig's major league debut on June 15. Surface of the presented photograph is impressively clean, though a small piece of the bottom-left corner is missing. They are barely visible but verso does display paper remnants affixed to all four corners, with pencil notations at the top and a large International News stamp is present. While it remains a vintage 1930's example and has been developed from the original negative, this photo has been encapsulated as a Type 2 photo by PSA/DNA, indicating it was created more than two years after the image was shot. Measures 6.5" x 8.5".
