The 1933 Delong Gum issue was one of the first and most popular gum card issues.  Produced by the Delong Gum Co. of Boston, this issue was one of several popular candy and gum-card sets to emanate from the New England area in the early 1930s.  The colorful cards remain popular among collectors today, the 24-card set not prohibitive to assemble, but nonetheless challenging.  One of the primary reasons for the challenge is the unquestionable key to the set, card #7 of Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig.  This example, graded FR 1.5 by SGC, offers a presentation far superior to the technically accurate grade.  Well-centered (an anomaly for this issue), the card exhibits wear at the corners, notably an upper-left corner crease.  A series of light creases across the card center are visible upon closer inspection, and some surface abrasions have resulted in a spot of paper loss in the blue sky area just in front of the Yankee captain.  The flaws are all evident, yet none particularly distracting, an outstanding collector grade example of the set's key card.
