Willie Mays, like Ted Williams, was about to be hosted and housed by The U.S. Army for a couple of years and reported for duty in May of 1952. It was unfortunate timing to be sure as he was just getting rolling with the Giants but Willie learned how to make his famous basket catch during his time in Fort Eustis, Virginia. This PSA 4 example form the 1952 Berk-Ross set shows the young Say Hey Kid looking a bit perplexed, no doubt wondering how the Giants had lost the 1951 World Series to the Yankees.
The card is accurately graded, with the top to bottom centering and a lower bottom right border pull in way of one of the separation nubs being the obvious culprits for the assigned grade.
