Lanky southpaw hurler, Rube Marquard tosses during the prime of his career in this 5" x 7" photo from Paul Thompson. A future Hall of Famer, Marquard is depicted at the Polo Grounds in 1911, shortly after his Giants returned to their facility following a fire and reconstruction of the grandstand that famously closed the park until late June that season. This is an exceptional, sharp photo with near-perfect tonal contrast overall, revealing fine details within Marquard's unmistakeable 1911 Giants uniform. Notably, this image later served as the source material for Marquard's scarce 1912 Helmar S81 Silk premium. A small chip is missing from the top left corner and verso exhibits light toning with Paul Thompson stamping towards the top and a Baseball Magazine hologram at bottom. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
