Framed to a finished size of 26" x 20" this beautiful woodcut was published in Harper's Weekly in 1885, depicting New York's Buck Ewing (HOF), sliding in ahead of Chicago White Stockings catcher Silver Flint. The illustration depicts a game that occurred on Thursday, August 6, 1885 in New York, a 1-0 win for the New York team. Ewing, as noted in the title, is scoring the winning run ahead of Flint's tag as the umpire looks on. Beautifully hand-tinted, the well-known woodcut image makes a wonderful display.
