On Wed, July 24, 1912 Lt. George W. Beavers of West Point arrived at Hilltop Park and requested a tryout with Harry Wolverton's NY Highlanders. Incredibly, Wolverton obliged and allowed Beavers to remain with the club and train for several days. Whether or not the tryout was a spur-of-the-moment occurrence is open for debate but the article we've provided for reference certainly would have us think so! This 5" x 7" photograph from Paul Thompson depicts Beavers at Hilltop Park in full uniform as he warms up on the sidelines. Images of players in full uniform mid-season who never appeared in a major league game are particularly scarce and this rarity also includes a full typewritten story on verso - an uncommon practice for Paul Thompson's agency. Photo surface is clean with sharp corners and verso remains bright with only a small stain in the center towards the bottom edge. This photo is fresh to the hobby and originates from the archives of Photo File, Inc. where it has been stored for several decades until this offering. Guaranteed Type 1.
