In the early days of the World Series it was the 1909 classic that quickly became known as one of the greats in its short history. Pitting the Detroit Tigers and the Pittsburgh Pirates the Series quickly became known among fans as Cobb vs. Wagner with Cobb playing the part of the villain. The "good vs. evil" story played out in good fashion with the Pirates defeating Detroit in 7 games and Wagner batting .333 to Cobb's .231. Presented is a press pass from that series from Forbes Field in Pittsburgh. Two stubs from the pass remain attached to the pass. The pass itself as well as the associated stubs are severely worn (as one might expect with a century-old ticket) with significant staining and some paper missing from the bottom of the pass. The reverse of the pass also exhibits significant wear and paper loss. Issued to a reporter for "The Times " the pass has retained the perforated stubs for Game 4 and 5 (actually games 8 and 9 which were not necessary to be played). Despite the wear the piece displays remarkably well. The entire pass has been authenticated and encapsulated by SGC.
