Spectacular pair of "Magic Lantern Slides" dating to pre-1910 as produced by the Chicago Transparency Company. Such slides which measure 4" x 3 1/4" were widely used in the early 1900s paired with special projectors which gave people an early look at color images of people locations and other items of interest. This is a pair of baseball-related slides the likes of which we have never seen before. The first depicts a White Sox player jumping to catch a line drive. The slide image is in excellent condition though as you can see from the scan the glass plate is cracked at the bottom right the cracks traversing the entire height of the slide. The second slide has been described by another auction house as being Red Dooin in his batting stance. The quality of the transparency is excellent the image clean and crisp. Rarely are we able to see actual color images from the deadball era. Transparencies such as these give us a much more contemporary-looking window into the period affording us the opportunity to witness images from the time in living color. Two outstanding artifacts beautiful pieces of color photography from the early 20th Century.
