The great Stan Musial signed his first pro contract with the St. Louis Cardinals organization while he was still in high school eventually making his debut in 1938 with the Williamson Colts of the Mountain State (Class D) league as a pitcher. By 1939 he was playing the outfield when he wasn't on the mound and in 1940 the now high school graduate was able to play a full season for the first time. A shoulder injury in the 1940 season (the year he married) ended his pitching career and he began the 1941 season with the Cardinals Class C team in Springfield Missouri. His success there led to a July promotion to the AA Rochester Red Wings of the International League where he hit .326 in just 54 games before being called up to the Big Club on September 17. Presented here is the season pass issued directly to his young wife Lillian Musial by the Red Wings. Mrs. Musial met her future husband when they were 15 years old and they were married in the spring of 1940. They remained married for 71 years. The pass itself is in GOOD condition although it appears much nicer. Some edge wear and toning is visible as are some minor wrinkles throughout. A small tear can be seen at the top of the card just above the "N" in "SEASON." A longer crease can be seen at the bottom left of the tax stamp far more visible on the reverse where it resembles a tear. Still none of the issues are particularly obtrusive as the piece still presents particularly well. Lillian Musial has signed the pass "Mrs. Stanley Musial" on the reverse of the pass. The pass (but not the signature) has been authenticated and encapsulated by SGC.
