Elected to the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1953 Thomas Henry Connolly was an umpire for 34 years. One of the American League's first umpires Connolly joined eventual Hall of Famer Hank O'Day as officials for the first-ever World Series in 1903 also umpiring in the first games at Shibe Park Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium. After retiring in 1931 he served as American League Umpire in Chief until 1954 instituting a number of reforms to improve the quality of major league officiating. Connolly was elected to the Hall of Fame alongside fellow umpiring great Bill Klem. Connolly is widely regarded as one of the greatest umpires of All-Time. Upon his retirement Connolly was awarded a "golden pass" to all Major League games a fact pointed out in his SABR biography along with the observation that he would often be found at Fenway Park watching Red Sox games. Presented here is the National League component of the pass issued to Connolly the year after his Hall of Fame induction and the year of his retirement from baseball. Providing Connolly and one guest free admission to all National League parks the pass carries serial number 52 B and the facsimile signature of league president Warren Giles. Aside from typical age-related toning and slight waviness from being stored in the wallet the full-color pass is in beautiful condition with very little wear. The same can be said for the handsome leatherette wallet a decorative piece designed to house a season pass issued to one of the game's most well-respected figures. A tremendous piece of memorabilia a former possession of a noted Hall of Famer which surely accompanied him to many games during the great 1954 season.
