6.5" x 8.5" photo depicting 19-year-old Willie Mays with his first minor league squad - the 1950 Trenton Giants of the Class B Tri-State League. Mays debuted with Trenton on June 24, 1950, appearing in 81 games before being promoted to AAA with the Minneapolis Millers in 1951. Mays would quickly make his major league debut with the New York Giants on May 24, 1951 helping them swipe the National League pennant from the Brooklyn Dodgers after going 40-18 to finish the season. The Giants late-season run famously culminated with a 3-game tiebreaker series ultimately decided by Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard 'Round the World." In the 1951 World Series Willie Mays, Hank Thompson, and Monte Irvin formed the first all-African-American outfield in major league history, though the Giants dropped the series 4-2 to the Yankees. Fittingly, Mays would be honored with the 1951 National League Rookie of the Year Award following the season.

Photo exhibits heavy wear throughout, though the central image presents quite well. There is a small piece of the top-right corner missing and a small piece has fallen away from the bottom border. Verso is heavily soiled and two pieces of clear tape are affixed to reenforce tears. Handwritten identifications of each player appear in pencil, with "1950 Trenton Giants" written in ballpoint. Authenticated as Type 1 and encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
