Yet another example where conventional grading standards simply do not make sense, this N172 of California Brown, despite having a clear image with superb contrast, well-centered on the card with very little wear, has been graded FAIR 1.5 by SGC. The reason for the grade is largely related to paper loss on the back, which is blank. Old Judge cards with sharp images such as this, with slight back damage, are among the best values in vintage collecting, as damage to the reverse has absolutely no bearing on the card whatsoever.
